The infantry at Omaha Beach suffered the highest casualty rates of the D-Day landings, but ultimately held their part of the coast after more than a day of intense fighting. ![]() Omaha Beach - At the turning point of World War II, the Allies staged a massive coastal invasion of France's Normandy coast. Stalingrad - Shattered by Axis artillery and bombardment, a small residential apartment complex in the Russian city of Stalingrad becomes the site of an intense struggle for control between Allied and Axis forces. ![]() Neither side would give up this river crossing easily. The Bridge - It was crucial to both Axis and Allied forces that key transportation routes and were kept under their control to maintain a steady supply of fuel, food, reinforcements and ammunition to the front lines.
